Volunteer Spotlight
Our volunteers are so amazing! They provide services from cleaning donations to transporting clients to treatments to helping out at our office to educating the community on cancer prevention to helping out at fundraisers to making hats and blankets for our chemo clients. In all, over 600 volunteers have contributed over 10,000 hours of service in 2009. 2010 is off to a great start.
May 19, 2010 -- Today Tammy Darden's 5th grade Girl Scout troop donated over 100 rice bags for our clients to use during Healing Hands sessions. They can be warmed in the microwave and used to warm the client during treatments. We are thrilled at the hard work that went into making all of these gifts for us!
April 2010 -- Today a group of students from Calvary Baptist came in as a part of their School of Service program. They spent several hours making inspirational bookmarks for our cancer survivors. Their enthusiasm was contagious!
Susan MacIntosh from Inspired Spaces has been volunteering for us since November 2009. Each month, she and her company, along with other volunteers she rounds up, makeover a room or rooms in one of our client's home. During the month clients put their names into a jar, from which we select one lucky individual to get the makeover. Here are some of the before and after pictures from these makeovers. Susan's goal is to create a serene calm home santuary for the client as they go through their cancer treatments.
Thoughtful gestures, such as, these contribute so much to help people living with cancer in our community! If you or a group are interested in doing something to help, please contact at (336) 760-9983.
